3D imaging takes a digital x-ray machine that rotates around your head while you stand or sit in a chair. The process takes about 15 seconds and we use this scan to exam and create a treatment plan for various treatments such as gum treatment, root canal treatment and dental implants.
After 3D imaging is done we can see your jaw in 3 dimensional images compared to 2 dimensional images in regular x-rays. For example, if we are planning on dental implants we can see not only the length of the bone but also the width and the quality of the bone which is not possible in 2D images. You can also see the size of the infection as well as where the nerve is which is harder to identify in 2D images.
